About Chinese Medicine

Chinese Medicine is a healthcare approach that has been practiced for thousands of years. It considers every individual unique and therefore in need of their own personalized path towards health. This holistic approach aims to achieve balance and harmony by addressing the root cause of any issue that may be causing various symptoms.

During acupuncture sessions, the following are some common modalities used.

  • Thin, flexible, sterile needles are used to stimulate energetic meridians of the body to encourage the free flow of “qi” or energy, which leads to a restoration of balance.

  • Chinese Herbal Medicine utilizes ancient herbal knowledge to address imbalances on a deep internal level. This system has been studied extensively over thousands of years and is considered a powerful medicine that can be used to resolve many issues. During acupuncture sessions, topical herbal formulas may be applied, and internal herbal formulas may be prescribed.

  • Diet is an important element of health; the food we eat every day can greatly affect our quality of life and can treat/prevent illness. Recommendations for each patient are specifically tailored to meet the needs of their constitution, lifestyle, preferences, and imbalances. These recommendations include ideas for diet and lifestyle changes, as well as suggestions for supplementing vitamins & minerals.

  • Gua Sha is the use of typically smooth stone scraping tools on muscles and fascia. It is used to resolve areas of stagnation and improve circulation. Tui Na is a specialized type of massage used to stimulate the energetic meridians of the body and relieve areas of stagnation. Cupping is the use of plastic or glass cups on specific areas of the body to resolve areas of stagnation and improve circulation. It is also used to treat organ dysfunction and powerfully stimulates the body’s meridians.

  • TDP is an acronym for “Teding Diancibo Pu” which loosely translated, means specific electromagnetic spectrum. This lamp utilizes far infrared light to increase microcirculation and accelerate the body’s healing process. It may be used during acupuncture sessions as an adjunct heating modality to loosen stiff muscles & joints and support the healing of injuries.
